What Is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a 5000+ year old alternative healing modality, originating from India. It uses an elemental system (space, air, fire, water, earth) to understand the body, mind, and world around us. Ayur means life, and veda means science/knowledge--Ayurveda translates to the knowledge/science of life.

These elements show up in the body as three different constitutions--Vata (space+air), Pitta (fire+water), and Kapha (water+earth). The goal of Ayurveda is to understand how our individual selves operate, and learn to harmonize our internal world with our external world. It also helps us understand the people around us and to love and honor our differences.

BENEFITS OF AYURVEDA

1. Harmony - Ayurveda helps us bring harmony to our bodies and minds, and aligns us with what we’re here to do through appropriate use of food, herbs, habits, and lifestyle.

2. Prevention - Ayurveda is not just about curing symptoms. It helps create deep health & longevity, and prevents many conditions by restoring and working with the body's innate wisdom. With the right nutrition and daily habits, our lives can be consistently healthy and we can age gracefully.

3. Treatment - Ayurveda can also be used to treat acute conditions such as anxiety, depression, mood challenges, digestive imbalances, skin conditions, pain, inflammation & arthritic conditions, hormonal & menstrual challenges, PMS, PCOS, sleep disorders, low energy, adrenal fatigue, and many more challenges.

When you understand the qualities of your Dosha (your mind-body type), and you understand the qualities of the world around you, it’s much easier to make aligned choices for YOU personally that will keep you healthy and well throughout your lifetime.

With Ayurveda, you’ll receive guidance for:

  1. Proper diet/nutrition

  2. Proper sleep/rest

  3. Proper use of energy

  4. Treatment of acute conditions

  5. Daily habits & lifestyle recommendations

If you feed yourself the right foods for your constitution, you will have a happy, healthy body. If you get adequate sleep, your body and mind will be replenished and restored each night. If you use your energy wisely, and follow natural circadian & infradian rhythms, you will be in harmony with the natural rhythms of life. This is how optimal health is achieved.
